Arguably one of the most distinctive aircraft engines on the scene, the Radial engine deserves a place in our Aviator’s Spotlight fly-in series!
Before gas turbine engines, the Radial engine was the popular choice for its matchless design and key qualities. An odd number of cylinders helped reduce vibration, and arranged around the crankshaft in its iconic “star” pattern created a smoother output – as well as being visually striking. Typically air-cooled, Radial engines are lighter and more powerful for their weight than water-cooled engines, helping create its recognisable roar.
This Saturday, any visting aircraft with a radial engine is treated to a free landing fee, as we celebrate this classic within aviation history. PPR as normal, on 01747 811767.
