Here at Compton Abbas Airfield Smokehouse, we are recruiting a competent line chef to be a vital part of our exciting future and to join our expanding team. We are a fast paced, high demand venue who have based our menu’s around a BBQ/Smokehouse theme.
This is a full-time, permanent position, scheduled on eight-hour morning/afternoon shifts. Weekend availability, and the ability to commute or relocate is essential.
Successful applicants will be required to cook over open flames and use both of our in-house smokers. (Full training will be provided)
Desirable Experience:
- Working in a commercial kitchen for 2 years which provides a high turn around and quick service to quality standards.
- College qualifications (NVQ certifications).
Essential Requirements:
- Health & Hygiene certifications (Food safety level 2 & above)
- High standards of hygiene and organisation.
- Remaining calm under pressure and have the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Food & Beverage Manager
Job description: Food & Beverage Manager
We are currently looking to recruit a Food and Beverage (F&B) Manager to join our Smokehouse Team, at Compton Abbas Airfield! The F&B Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food and beverage operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality, service, and efficiency across all indoor and outdoor F&B areas.
This is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week including weekends (the business is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, excluding bank holidays).
Key reponsibilities include the overseeing of all Front of House (FoH) operations, including the Smokehouse, Bar and outdoor F&B outlets, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and optimising performance and efficiency to ensure the FoH Team delivers exceptional service to guests. The F&B Manager will also oversee inventory tasks, such as stock ordering, waste control, accurate stock checks, equipment maintenance, and the monitoring of commercial performance (particularly gross profit on beverages).
Desirable Experience:
- Background in staff training and development
- Knowledge of kitchen and food preparation procedures, and bar operation experience.
- Experience in management of incidents, and first aid training.
- Willingness to undertake Delegated Premises Supervisor responsibilities, engaging in continuous professional development.
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience in restaurant or café management, with a strong track record in delivering high-quality guest service.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including staff scheduling, personnel management and stock control.
- Willingness and availability to work weekends and evenings as required.
- Strong work ethic, proactive mindset, and ability to uphold high standards, and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
- IT system proficiency, particularly POS software.
Salary Range: £33,000 – £37,000 per annum depending on experience. Position reports to the Airfield Manager (or Office Manager, in the Airfield Manager’s absence).

Job Description: Kitchen Porter
We are looking for a consistent and reliable hard worker to join our kitchen team. You will play a vital role in ensuring cleanliness and high levels of hygiene are kept and will need to be adapt in working well within a team to promote a smooth daily operation throughout a busy forward season.
Communication within the team is key and speed is of the essence due to our busy nature.
Daily Responsibilities:
- To clean, polish and sanitise plates, cutlery, glasses and crockery.
- To clean pots, pans, chopping boards, sharp knives and utensils.
- To clean and sanitise equipment and work surfaces.
- To help in the regular daily cleaning of the kitchen interior including floors.
- To be efficient in using the dishwasher.
- To empty waste containers.
Requirements:
- To be on time and ready to work a busy breakfast and lunch service.
- To be clean and organised.
- Previous experience in a similar role. (not essential)
- Basic understanding of food safety and COSHH (training can be provided)
- Ability to work safely in a busy environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team.
This is a full-time permanent position working Wednesday through to Sunday day times. We are currently closed Monday and Tuesday and do not open evenings.
We would consider a job share.
